New York Hires New Virtual Currency Official
- The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has recently hired Peter Marton to serve as deputy superintendent of virtual currency. 
- The position is within the NYDFS Research and Innovation Division and will specifically focus on virtual and digital currencies, blockchain technology, and other related innovations. 
- Peter Marton has previously worked at Promontory Financial Group, a subsidiary of IBM for 6 years and spent the last 6 months specifically acting as its director of digital assets. 
- “Crypto supervision should be a marathon, not a sprint, and I look forward to continue this effort in earnest,” says Marton in a celebratory LinkedIn post. 
- The NYDFS is responsible for the regulation of financial services and products in the State of New York, and is the regulator behind the New York BitLicense, a permit that all cryptocurrency based businesses operating in New York are mandated to have.
